Soothsayer

One practicing divination, including

Ok , Beryl was probably not a soothsayer , but she did  have a few stock standard sayings for particular occasions and moment that were reflective of the times she lived in and the type of person she was

  • Yesterday is dead forget it, tomorrow does not exist , today is here, use it.

  • If you can’t be good be careful , if  you can’t be careful remember the date.

  • Blind Freddy on horse back would be glad to see it.

  • I’ve had eloquent sufficiency thank you.

  • Up in Annies room behind the clock

There is one that I'm stuck on. Its about Laziness . It goes something like "Laziness is not done well unless you are committed to it " Beryl was proud of her commitment to this past time. While it infuriated me at the time , I now see the wisdom of stopping to smell the daisies or the urban equivalent , Window shopping down at the Plaza.
Any clarifications?

  2. When I was 8 or 9 I remember Grandma saying "As quiet as a ghost, as creeping moses" I dont know why it stuck with me for so long, I suppose it was just one of those things that only Grandma said

I did some searching and found this poem I'm pretty sure the saying comes from. I couldn't find the Author, Date or Origin but when I read it it made me think of Grandma.

He’d put on - say – a bowler hat, screw
Sea shells with holes in over his
Eyes - lean round the parlour door
And withdraw. Quiet as a ghost,
    As Creeping Moses.

  5. Can't remember any specific sayings attributable to Mrs Tishler but I can DEFINATELY remember that she was the FIRST adult I had ever met who did not speak down to me. I will love her forever for that!! She also taught me about gravy. I had never ever eaten it before and certainly didn't know how to make it. She sorted me out quick smart and now I am a whizz at it. My family will always be greatful to her for that.
